Homework Guidelines

In most cases (unless you are told differently for a project or late work), these are the expectation for homework this year:

Homework is an important part of education. It helps students practice skills and also helps them learn time management.

  • Homework is assigned every night except for weekends. You can expect math and reading homework each night.
  • Assignments will be written in planners every day. Planners are checked by the teacher for thoroughness so parents can expect that the assignments written are correct. It is the students’ responsibility to ask questions if they do not understand what is expected.
  • Late work is not accepted. ALL assignments are due at by arrival at school. Paper assignments should be submitted to the turn in bin, and Google Classroom assignments should be submitted before 8 am.
  • If you forget your homework, you may choose to complete the assignment at recess for a lower score.
  • If you are absent, you may turn in missed assignments when you return. You have as many days to complete absent work as you missed (if you’re out 2 days, you have 2 days after you return to school to turn in that work). If you feel well enough, check Google Classroom to stay on track with work that can be done from home!
  • Assignments should be done carefully and neatly. Math assignments should have work shown when appropriate, and reading assignments should be answered in complete sentences.
  • Missing work can be viewed in the Aeries Portal. Please check this regularly— while missing work cannot be made up, checking your child’s progress will help you plan your child’s work completion.

Each night, you should expect:

  • Math homework. This might be a practice sheet OR math notes and a video to watch.
  • Reading Homework. This is posted in Google Classroom and involves reading a story or article sent home on Monday, and then answering questions about it. Answers must be written in complete sentences.
  • Independent reading. Each night, students should read for at least 20 minutes, and then write about what they read based on a Reading Choice Menu that is sent home on Mondays.

  1. Hi, are you going to post what homework is due and when? That information is sometimes not given to me correctly LOL

  2. It won’t be posted, but we will write homework down together in their planners each day, and I will stamp the planners so you know it’s correct.

The overview of homework is in the folder I forgot to send home today, but we are really very regular with homework and it’s almost always due the next day. More info coming tomorrow!
